What to Expect at Seattle Opera In-Person Events
Updated 6/16/2023
Safety protocols change and evolve regularly. Please check this page before you come to every event at Seattle Opera.
Events at McCaw Hall and Opera Center WINTER 2022 and beyond
We no longer require proof of vaccination or a recent negative test to attend Seattle Opera events at McCaw Hall and the Opera Center. We strongly encourage and recommend everyone continue to wear masks at Seattle Opera, however, we no longer required masks to be worn at public performances and events.
We will continue to encourage all audiences and attendees to wear masks while community spread continues and will provide free masks for anyone who forgets a mask and would like to wear one. We ask that all audience members be respectful of each other’s choices.
These COVID protocols are subject to change, at our discretion, at any time, so we encourage you to check this COVID Safety webpage before every event you attend. This page is always up to date with the latest information. If you have questions, please contact Audience Services at tickets@seattleopera.org or call 206.389.7676.
FAQs
Why aren’t you requiring masks?
This is a very difficult position for performing arts organizations and Seattle Opera to be in. No matter what choice we make regarding masking, there are people that are unhappy about it. We are strongly encouraging everyone to wear masks at our performances, and we will continue to provide masks at no charge for those that want to wear one.
If we have a mandate, audience members are going to expect it to be enforced. And that is a nearly impossible thing to do in a dark theater during a performance without interrupting the performance itself.
Aren't all the other arts organizations requiring masks?
Right now, some organizations are requiring masks and some aren’t. There are several large Seattle theaters and performance spaces that have the same policy as we have and are strongly encouraging, but not requiring mask wearing.
Please read our full ticket policies for more information.
