2024/25 SEASON

Pagliacci

August 3–17, 2024
Performance Time: 2 hours including one intermission

Movie-style rating is PG-13 for:

  • On stage murder including a significant spray of fake blood
  • Depictions of violence against women
  • Mild depictions of physical deformations based on the traditional commedia dell'arte practices of the time. Pagliacci premiered in 1892.  Read more about this on our blog. Read more

Known as the "sad clown" opera, the story follows a man who discovers his wife's infidelity and in a rage of jealousy, murders her and her lover. While the music is well-known and approachable, the story may not be appropriate for younger audiences. 

JUbilee

October 12–26, 2024
Performance Time: 2 hours 40 minutes with one intermission

Movie-style rating is PG for: 

  • Themes of racism and violence
  • Characters recounting their experiences as slaves

This production does not contain any on-stage depictions of sex, or violence. Younger patrons may need support understanding elements of American history reflected in the opera including racism and slavery.

Les Troyens in Concert

January 17 & 19, 2025
Performance Time: 3 hours including one intermission

Movie-style rating PG-13 is for: 

  • Sexual relationship depicted through music and text
  • Suicide of the main character 

This is a stylized concert production and will not show any on-stage depictions of violence or sex. Based on the Greek classic Dido and Aeneas, this production features impressive solo voices, and a large orchestra and chorus, with the bulk of the story being relayed through music and text instead of physical depictions.

The Magic Flute

February 22–March 9, 2025
Performance Time: 2 hours 40 minutes including one intermission

Movie-style rating of PG for: 

  • Accessible storyline
  • Vivid, cartoonish projections
  • Depictions of monster-like beings

On-stage performers seamlessly interact with hand-drawn animations in this Mozart classic. This full-length opera is great for young patrons and adults but does feature vivid depictions of fantastical beings which may be unsettling for young children. 

TOSCA

May 3–17, 2025
Performance Time: 2 hours and 50 minutes including two intermissions

Movie-style rating of PG-13 for:

  • Attempted rape
  • Murder
  • Execution
  • Suicide
  • Offstage torture

An audience favorite, the intense passions and accessible music of this dramatic thriller make it a great first-time opera. Discretion is advised due to multiple onstage depictions of violence, death, and attempted rape.
