Remain in Tagney Jones Hall after each performance to reflect and expand on the themes in The Falling and the Rising. For each post-show discussion, Seattle Opera will feature community members and organizations working to improve the lives and well-being of service members and veterans through the arts.
Veterans Panel
November 15
Hear from veterans about their lived experience in military service and their perspectives on the opera.
Music Therapy and Creative Arts Therapy
November 17 and 20
Arts therapists Brenda Maltz (Intrepid Spirit Center), Megumi Azekawa (Puget Sound Music Therapy), and MusicWorks4Veterans founder John Selzler will discuss using music to help veterans work through trauma through the lens of creative arts therapy.
The Red Badge Project
November 22
The Red Badge Project is a Seattle-based organization that encourages soldiers to rediscover their personal voice using the fundamentals of storytelling. Hear from co-founders Evan Bailey and Tom Skerritt on their experiences and vision for healing trauma through the arts.
Path with Art
November 24
Through a collaboration with Path with Art, the chorus of The Falling and the Rising is composed entirely of veterans who have experienced or are recovering from homelessness. Chorus members will discuss their lived experience and how the arts have contributed to their recovery.
