For more events surrounding the Seattle premiere of X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, check out our upcoming Opera Talks with librettist Thulani Davis on The Emancipation Circuit on Saturday, February 24, and A Conversation with Ilyasah Shabazz on Thursday, March 7.

Learn how Malcolm X, a monumental figure of the civil rights movement, inspired the Davis family team of creators to adapt his story for the opera stage. Moderated by our scholar-in-residence Dr. Naomi André, this talk will feature Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Anthony Davis, librettist Thulani Davis, and story writer Christopher Davis as they discuss the genesis of X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X and reflect on the continued significance of this work nearly four decades after its premiere.

Books about Malcolm X will be available for purchase via our partners at LOVING ROOM: Diaspora Books + Salon.

Seattle Opera donors at the Supporter ($500+) level and above: you are invited to arrive early for a reception at 6:15 PM before the talk begins. Simply RSVP for the opera talk to be added to the reception list. Refreshments will be provided.
